I just finished reading an article in the April 20, Medical News Bulletin, by Haisam Shah.
Haisam summarizes a likely hazard for students who are diagnosed with ADHD and are transitioning into college.
A looming risk factor is the student’s potential for non-adherence to their medication regimen and the performance, emotional, social and behavioral consequences that could follow.
Having worked with a number of college students with ADHD I would concur with Haisim. Moving from a home environment that allows for parental monitoring of the medication regimen to a college dorm that stresses self-reliance and requires self-discipline, planning, scheduling and motivation can be a daunting task for the transitioning student.
